Smoother flow, faster color change.
Techne’s Fast Color Change system consists of applying a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating to the extrusion head. The treatment reduces friction between plastic and metal, facilitates material flow, limits polymer adhesion to surfaces, and allows faster and cleaner color changes.
The process requires fewer cleaning interventions, reduces downtime, and ensures continuous production—ideal for lines that perform frequent color changes without waste or delays.

Who it’s for:
Manufacturers of motor oil and lubricant jerrycans
Motor oil and lubricant jerrycans are produced in multiple shades. A fast color change system is essential to ensure efficiency and sustainability in production.
Cosmetic bottle manufacturers
In the Personal Care sector, bottles for shampoos and body care products are often produced in various colors. PVD coating on the extrusion head improves efficiency and quality.
Detergent container manufacturers
In the Home Care sector, bottles and jerrycans for detergents are produced in different colors. A fast color change system optimizes production, reducing downtime.
Converters
For packaging production with frequent color changes, adopting fast color change solutions improves productivity and reduces costs.

The solution for frequent color changes.
The PVD coating applied to the extrusion head provides packaging manufacturers with an effective solution for fast color changes in plastic bottles. By reducing friction and polymer adhesion to metal, it improves material flow, limits the need for cleaning, and reduces downtime. The result is higher productivity, fast and clean color changes, and continuous production—ideal for lines with frequent color variations.

PVD Coating: 3 Key Benefits
Lower adhesion between plastic and metal accelerates the transition from one color to another. The result is a faster, cleaner process with less waste.
The coating reduces material buildup on surfaces, minimizing maintenance. Less downtime means more productivity and resource savings.
The treatment is suitable for food contact and can be used in medical applications. It guarantees high standards without compromising quality or production continuity.

PVD Coating Technical Specifications.
The coating used by Techne consists of 1,200 alternating layers of Chromium Nitride (CrN) and Niobium Nitride (NbN), a structure that ensures strength and consistent performance. Its hardness exceeds 2,500 HV, and its friction coefficient is 0.4, ensuring optimal material flow during the process.
Deposition occurs at 280°C, but the coating can operate without issues on metals reaching temperatures up to 850°C, making it suitable for various applications. Additionally, the low deposition temperature makes it compatible with many metallic substrates. Everything is certified for food contact according to European regulations and compliant with the standards required for medical device use.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
To reduce the percentage of masterbatch used and thereby significantly lower annual costs, simply switch from monolayer technology to COEX; in this way, the color is inserted only into the outer layer in a minimal percentage. View the cost savings analysis here: COLOR SAVINGS ANALYSIS
It is a technology that applies a PVD coating to the extrusion head to reduce friction between plastic and metal and speed up color changes during production.
Absolutely yes. It is certified for food contact according to European regulations and meets the standards required for the medical sector.
It reduces downtime, increases production continuity, reduces material waste, and enables more efficient process management.
PVD coating is suitable for any sector but finds one of its most significant applications in the production of motor oil jerrycans, where color changes are particularly frequent. Since these containers are produced in various shades, having a fast color change system is essential to ensure efficient and sustainable production.
