Clamping Force Automation
The CFA (Clamping Force Automation) was developed to meet the needs of converters and contract manufacturers who perform frequent format changes. It automates the clamping force adjustment, reduces human error, and protects molds and the machine over the long term.

Fast format changes without errors.
The CFA system is ideal for plastic bottle manufacturers producing multiple formats and looking to make format changes faster and simpler.
Techne’s patented clamping force automation represents a significant improvement for converters, reducing errors, increasing mold and machine lifespan, optimizing efficiency, improving production flexibility, and generating higher revenue with lower costs.
Who it is for:
Converters
Manufacturers of plastic bottles and containers who frequently change the bottle format and want to reduce manual adjustment times.
End Users
Final product manufacturers who need to produce multiple packaging formats and want to optimize clamping force adjustment times.

The solution for frequent format changes.
Traditional format changes, when performed frequently, require many adjustments: some mechanical adjustments carried out manually by the operator and others managed automatically by the PLC (temperatures, pressures, flow rates, times, etc.).
Clamping force is adjusted through a procedure involving disassembly, adjustment, reassembly, and testing. For this reason, many converters ask to eliminate these manual tasks and make the adjustment automatic and simple even for beginners.

CFA: 3 Key Benefits
Risks of human error, damage, or loss of components are eliminated.
The system is fully automatic and the clamping force value is stored within the specific bottle recipe. The system self-adjusts until the correct clamping value is reached without any operator intervention.
Thanks to CFA, molds always operate at the nominal clamping force value, preventing damage to cutting edges caused by excessive clamping forces.
Technical details of the CFA system
Automatic mold thickness compensation (+/- 2 mm).
For Full Electric machines with a locking carriage kinematic chain like ours, it is essential that the molds have a defined thickness value. Since these are often existing molds this thickness is not always the same, there may be a few mm difference. The CFA system does not depend on the thickness of the molds but self-adjusts until the correct closing value is reached without any operator intervention. The same happens every time the mold is serviced. By sharpening the cutting edges over time, some material is lost, so the thickness of the mold decreases.

Automatic compensation of backlash due to wear and tear.
The kinematic chain of the carriage is made possible by the use of pins and bushings that after millions of work cycles undergo physiological wear that generates inevitable backlash.
In the past, these had to be corrected manually by mechanical adjustment. Thanks to CFA, on the other hand, the operator no longer must do anything, as the backlash is automatically compensated for.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
It is the automation of the mold clamping force, stored in the bottle recipe, without the need for operator intervention.
The CFA system is applicable to all Techne full-electric blow molding machines in the E-line, Ph-line, and TK-line ranges. It is also potentially compatible as a retrofit for Techne machines already installed.
Yes. It is not necessary to use a new mold. CFA can automatically compensate for thickness variations up to ±2 mm.
No. The system is integrated into the PLC and self-adjusts. The operator does not need to perform any mechanical adjustments.
Absolutely. By reducing format change times, errors, and wear, the system provides tangible operational savings.
