The P.R.A. (Parison Radial Adjustment) system dynamically adjusts parison thickness, producing perfectly calibrated jerrycans with less material and greater strength.
Parison Radial Adjustment (P.R.A.) is a system developed by Techne to improve control of parison thickness in Extrusion Blow Molding processes, especially for asymmetric containers.
Unlike traditional systems, which modify thickness only in the longitudinal direction using fixed mandrel and die, P.R.A. uses a deformable die made of a special alloy that can be electrically adjusted during extrusion. By varying the shape and concentricity between the mandrel and the die, it enables radial thickness control, ensuring more precise material distribution for complex geometries such as jerrycans.
P.R.A. allows wall thickness reduction in motor oil and lubricant jerrycans while making them stronger and more high-performing.
Chemical sector
P.R.A. allows wall thickness reduction in chemical and agrochemical jerrycans while increasing strength and performance.
Precise and optimized control.
In Techne’s parison radial adjustment system, the flexible die ring is tensioned, compressed, and moved by electric servo actuators connected to two brushless motors. The movement follows a programmed profile synchronized with parison dosing, optimizing final thickness.
The motors, through the actuators, manage ring deformation with control based on encoders and real actuator position feedback (integrated into the ring). The system ensures precise thickness and maximum packaging strength.
By optimizing thickness, unnecessary plastic is eliminated, with savings of up to 10% of resin per container.
Higher production efficiency
Thinner walls enable faster cooling and shorter cycles, with fewer deformations and less scrap.
Stronger packaging and faster ROI
Containers are lighter yet more impact-resistant, while reduced material use and shorter cycles speed up return on investment.
Parison Radial Control steps
Flexible ring, ultra-precise thickness.
Complementary to the deformable P.R.A. ring, the flexible ring allows even more precise final thickness adjustment and is particularly useful for complex shapes such as special jerrycans or other non-round containers.
It enables profile optimization through two rows of screws that both push the inner flexible ring against the die and pull it, increasing the gap between mandrel and die.
The ideal solution for jerrycans and complex shapes.
For the production of 20–30 literjerrycans, the P.R.A. system with two actuators is required. The flexible ring is pulled and compressed by two actuators positioned opposite each other. The programmer profile generally has the same shape, but adjustments can be made for complex geometries.
